The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is one of the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) and its main objective is to finance development projects within the European Union.
The ERDF is one of the five European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) that, since 2014, operate within a common framework and pursue complementary political objectives. These funds, which are indirectly managed, represent the main source of investment at the EU level to help Member States restore and increase growth and ensure a recovery in employment, while also ensuring sustainable development, in line with the Europe 2020 objectives.
Through these funds, the EU pursues its "regional policy" to achieve the fundamental objective of economic and social cohesion between the regions of the Member States.
In particular, the ERDF contributes to financing support aimed at strengthening economic, social and territorial cohesion by eliminating the main regional disparities in the EU through sustainable development and structural adjustment of regional economies, including the reconversion of industrial regions in decline and regions lagging behind in development.
