The path of waste within a selection plant starts with the loading of the conveyor belt that moves the mass of material to be differentiated and sends it to selection, which can be done mechanically or by people. To make this selection possible, it is necessary, first of all, to distribute the material to be differentiated in a uniform manner on the surface of the conveyor belt, as most waste is disposed of in closed bags.
This first phase of treatment is carried out thanks to specialized machines, called shredders or bag openers, which cut the bags containing the waste and unload the undifferentiated mass onto the conveyor belt. The task of these machines is to shred the bags without crushing what they contain, as the larger the material to be separated, the easier it is to carry out the differentiation activity. The purpose of shredders and bag openers is therefore to cut the bags and perform a very coarse disintegration of their contents, spreading the material on the conveyor belt and sending it to mechanical or manual separation.
CAMEC has developed various models of shredders and bag openers, designed to make the activity of operators who perform manual separation of waste more efficient and improve the performance of the selection plant as a whole:
- Shredders - LC 450 LINE: these shredders are bi-axial shredders equipped with special shredding blades. Their purpose is to disintegrate the material and facilitate its spreading on the conveyor belt, without however crushing or reducing its volume.
- Power shredders - LC 520 LINE: this type of shredder is particularly suitable for use in contexts where large quantities of municipal solid waste are treated, such as landfills or municipal waste collection centers. In these contexts, different types of waste are typically managed - municipal solid waste, bulky waste, industrial waste... - and therefore powerful tools are required. For this reason, CAMEC has developed these shredders, which are capable of achieving high production rates with reduced energy consumption. These shredders are completed by a large loading hopper that serves as a collection chamber and simplifies the work of the operators who work in the plant. Furthermore, the management of rotor speed, blade reversals, and cleaning cycles are simplified by the ability to memorize pre-set recipes, which facilitate the operators in managing the different phases of work.
- Bag openers - AS 450 LINE: bag openers, equipped with blades that cut without crushing, differ from shredders because they are designed for the treatment of non-pressed material: the most typical example is municipal solid waste bags. Tools of this type are specifically designed for the unpacking of materials that arrive at the treatment center without having undergone a pressing phase, and are therefore not suitable for the treatment of bulky or industrial waste, but their ability to treat large quantities of material makes them particularly suitable for installation in municipal waste collection centers and municipalities. Also, the bag openers are equipped with systems for memorizing pre-set recipes that facilitate the operator and allow setting the different treatment cycles.
