Recycling and Reuse

Recycling and Reuse are terms that are very similar and have to do with the virtuous management of waste and resources at our disposal. But do we really know what activities are behind each of these actions?

The difference between the terms 'Reuse' and 'Recycling' is substantial:

we reuse a good that is not yet become waste and we recycle what is already waste and apparently no longer functional for the purpose for which it was produced. It seems like a play on words, but it's much simpler than we think.

The reuse of a good implies an immediate action. It means restoring, in some way, the function of the object to prevent it from becoming waste. For example: I drink all the contents of my water bottle and instead of throwing it away, I find a way to use it again.

Recycling, on the other hand, implies that I have already thrown away that bottle, but that the material it is made of is transformed to produce something new, similar or very different from what it was originally used for. The treatments dedicated to recycling PET are many and all aimed at producing a new material of quality (MPS) that can be reused in production processes.

The waste thus becomes, through the recycling process, a new material of quality (MPS) that can be reused in production processes.

In the photo we see an example of a PET shredding plant by Camec, complete with a tilting system, a perforated screw conveyor for discharge and a plastic processing washing system.
