Rotary shear CR2A and vertical hammer mill MV 2000: Camec’s innovations for processing ferrous waste

Written by CAMEC Srl | Oct 8, 2025 7:00:01 AM

All waste treatment plants developed by CAMEC are custom-designed to guarantee client companies flawless performance in terms of efficiency, finished product quality, and worker safety. To achieve this result, our technicians implement increasingly innovative solutions designed to be successfully applied even in particularly complex contexts, where continuous operation is required or where heavy loads must be managed.

The ferrous waste treatment sector is especially challenging in this respect, which is precisely why the CAMEC team has developed specific solutions tailored to meet the needs of companies operating in metal recycling. With CAMEC’s ferrous waste treatment machinery, it is possible to obtain metal that is homogeneous in both quality and size, ready to be reintroduced into production cycles and used as raw material for the steel industry or for the production of new metallic products and industrial semi-finished goods.

Here are some of the most high-performing tools currently available in the CAMEC catalog:

The CR2A Rotary Shear

CAMEC’s CR2A is a rotary shear designed to coarsely reduce the size of ferrous material to be treated, making possible the subsequent grinding and separation phases of the different metals contained within the waste. Passing through the shear is therefore the first processing stage that ferrous material destined for recycling undergoes, and it is essential that cutting be carried out effectively, while limiting energy consumption and, when necessary, managing intensive workloads.

For this reason, the CR2A shear is engineered to handle even the toughest scrap, ensuring maximum energy efficiency and continuous operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The CR2A features a dual independently operating shaft, which allows for greater control even with difficult material, and it is equipped with an inspectable and modular cutting chamber, as well as customizable base and hopper, which can be adapted to any loading/unloading requirement. The blades, made of special wear-resistant steel, are designed to require minimal maintenance even under intense work cycles, are interchangeable, and can be custom-configured.

Furthermore, like all CAMEC machines, the CR2A shear is conceived in a modular way and can therefore be used either as a standalone unit or within a complex processing line. In the latter case, thanks to Industry 4.0 capabilities, the shear can operate in an integrated manner with mills, conveyor belts, and separation systems, and can be managed via an advanced control panel that simplifies machine handling, reduces the number of operator interventions required, and ensures maximum safety.

The MV 2000 Vertical Hammer Mill

After passing through the shear, which reduces its size, the ferrous material to be recycled can be fed into CAMEC’s MV 2000 vertical hammer mill—the true heart of the ferrous waste treatment plant. This mill is specifically designed for the intensive processing of scrap and is capable of removing all non-ferrous components from within, using centrifugal force. It is therefore ideal for treating ferrous scrap pre-processed by shears, but also cables, electric motors, electronic components, and many other types of waste that contain non-ferrous elements that must be separated.

The use of hammers and linings made from wear-resistant steel ensures long-lasting high performance, even when processing abrasive materials, while the mill’s vertical structure makes the grinding process more efficient and allows even non-shreddable materials to be separated and automatically discharged.

In this way, CAMEC’s MV 2000 vertical hammer mill transforms heterogeneous waste into homogeneous, carefully selected, high-value fractions, making it the ideal solution for contexts that require precise particle sizes and high-quality output.

The integration between the rotary shear and the hammer mill developed by CAMEC guarantees the best results in terms of ferrous material volume reduction, producing a shredded mass with high specific weight, free of non-ferrous components, and uniform in size—perfectly prepared for subsequent separation phases of the individual metals contained within.

The ability to manage both machines in an automated and integrated way, in line with Industry 4.0 principles, ensures the highest levels of safety and efficiency. Furthermore, CAMEC’s focus on developing machines that require minimal maintenance makes these tools the ideal solution for companies in the ferrous waste recovery sector that want to take a real step forward in efficiency, safety, and recovered product quality.
