Città della Speranza and its researchers work every day to cure children who are ill with leukemia and other cancerous diseases. Research (basic and clinical) has made significant progress, but equally important is advanced diagnostics. The support of the Foundation in this direction has contributed to making the pediatric oncology center in Padua a national reference point for the diagnosis of leukemias, lymphomas, and sarcomas. This means being able to guarantee all patients in Italy a certain diagnosis, the best treatment protocols, and monitoring of the disease through the most modern techniques.
The precision offered by the latest diagnostic methods has made it possible to develop two treatment protocols for two types of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (lymphoblastic and anaplastic large cell), which will start in 2020. These protocols, developed with the coordination of the Paduan working group, will be applied throughout Europe and will allow for more targeted therapies thanks to better stratification of patients, defined not only through clinical examinations but also through innovative molecular biology methods.
